  • POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Planner/Supervisor provides support to the maintenance department to minimize downtime and achieve efficient plant operations. They will provide leadership and support to subordinates in defining and implementing procedures and corrective measures when needed as well as ensuring their safety by enforcing procedures surrounding health and safety legislation. The Maintenance Planner/Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring mechanical equipment repairs, replacements and mill modifications are carried out to applicable codes, standards, good trade and maintenance practices.

    The Maintenance Planner/Supervisor will have a strong focus on maintenance planning and scheduling. The incumbent will assist in determining and controlling costs in area of responsibility and ensuring maintenance labour and materials are within budgeted guidelines. The Maintenance Planner/Supervisor will be responsible to provide analyses of reports to ensure performance standards are met through identification of corrective steps. This is a unionized position under Unifor Local 342.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • The successful applicant will possess industry experience in the Mechanical field and hold a Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma and/or Mechanical Engineering Degree and/or a Journeyman Trade Qualification through an approved apprenticeship program.

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an industrial environment is essential, pulp and paper industry experience is an asset.

  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Senior Mechanical Engineer initiates and/or designs and implements projects for changes or additions to the Mill assuring adequate and safe performance to improve the operation’s efficiency. Provides technical support to employees in different operating departments to find solutions and prevent repetitive problems.

    Develops, reviews and implements detailed plans, projects and studies, and recommendations regarding program specific needs such as capital replacement of aging equipment/infrastructure, operating/maintenance requirements, and new capital infrastructure.

    Provides Senior Management with specific recommendations on maintaining a competitive operating mill environment;

    Approves vendor’s drawings, bills of materials and specifications. Work with multidisciplinary teams on projects including tasks such as preparation of engineering drawings, material specifications, design, document preparation, spare parts management, project management, procurement, cost monitoring and writing work instructions;

    Calculates the design of parts and materials to ensure installation safety while conforming to Government, Workers Compensation Board and Insurer’s standards, as a minimum;

    Sets inventory levels for new equipment and instructs area planner for changes;

    Responsible for following work practices established for ensuring employee health and safety and environmental protection;

    Approves purchases for services, materials, parts and equipment within signing authority for projects under his/her control.

    Qualifications:

    Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the welder is accountable to:

    • Maintain and repair piping, storage tanks, equipment and structures in all areas of the site to ensure that the mill operates efficiently, and that production and safety objectives are achieved;

    • Fabricate, repair, and install pressure piping in compliance with the QA/QC manual;

    • Utilize different welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, etc.) on various materials (carbon, chrome moly, stainless steel, aluminum) for fabrication and repairs of process equipment and structures;

    • Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures and requirements;

    • From instructions, prints and work orders, organize details of procedures, required materials and tools for the job;

    • Ensure work area is maintained in a clean and organized manner;

    • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

    Qualifications

    • Strong work ethic and proven safety record;

    • Valid Welder Journeyperson Trade Qualification;

    • Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills;
