Steam & Recovery Day/Relief Supervisor

Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Steam & Recovery Superintendent, the Steam & Recovery Day/Relief Supervisor is accountable for supplying water, steam, power and air to the Kraft Paper Mill.  To accomplish this, the incumbent assumes the responsibility of managing the operation of the First-Class Steam and Recover Boiler Plant, including the lime and recausticizing area, water treatment plant, electrical generation and distribution while on shift. As the senior official in the department during the absence of the Manager and the Superintendent, the Day/ Relief Supervisor assumes the responsibility for the production and distribution of all the utilities to the Pulp Mill and Paper Mill.

The incumbent supervises hourly employees, when required.

KEY RESPONISIBILITIES:

  • Provide relief supervision coverage as required
  • Troubleshoot problematic areas within the department
  • Work closely with other area supervisors to determine quality and quantity of water, compressed air, steam, green liquor, white liquor, hot lime and electrical power required
  • Monitors inventory levels and provides recommendation to manager and superintendent
  • Acts immediately to eliminate and address emergencies around the mill as required
  • Provides additional support to the department as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A proven focus on the safety, demonstrating the courage to care for self and others
  • 8 years’ experience in the operation of the Steam and Power Plant of a pulp and paper mill or similar First-Class power plant
  • A 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate is desirable with a minimum of 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate working towards a First
  • The successful applicant is required to be a self-starter with excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, time management skills and must possess the ability to work with interruptions while continually reassessing and changing priorities
  • The ability to pay keen attention to detail is essential
  • The incumbent must be able to operate in a team environment as well as manage relationships with supervisors, mill stores and purchasing personnel.
