Log Yard & Chip Production Team Lead

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Woodlands Manager of Harvesting, the Log Yard & Chip Production Team Lead is responsible for the management and planning of operations and maintenance of the Log Yard, Chip Production (Diehl Chipper), and associated Yard infrastructure.  The incumbent is responsible for supervision of employees in the effective delivery of their responsibilities, and other duties as assigned that relate to the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the business.

THE LOG YARD & CHIP PRODUCTION TEAM LEAD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • The oversight of the operations and maintenance of the log yard and its operations, the Diehl Processor, and other related areas and infrastructure as required;
  • Promoting, supporting and demonstrating safety in the workplace and reinforcing the company’s commitment to safety;
  • Consistently producing high quality chips and hog at the mill site by ensuring effective operation and use of machines, fibre, and human resources.
  • Reporting, recording, resolving, and managing production, maintenance, and safety at the Diehl Processor, Loaders, and Offloaders.
  • Scheduling planned maintenance activities appropriately with the Maintenance Planner, and the Woodlands Manager, Harvesting that considers yard inventory, mill consumption, fibre deliveries, and trades resource availability.
  • Problem solving unplanned maintenance requirements (breakdowns) by coordinating employee resources appropriately and effectively.
  • Participating in budget development and financial planning in relation to these responsibilities
  • The supervision of employees, including scheduling, time reporting, and other related functions.

Qualifications

  • The incumbent will possess a minimum of 3 years related supervisory experience in the wood products field. A combination of supervisory experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in industrial or technical related fields could be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allows one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
